Context

Infans derives from the Latin for “one who cannot speak”. The title associates the figure with loss of voice and autonomy, and with traumatic childhood experience.

Faceless and without a stable identity, Infans emerged spontaneously through the making process and was subsequently understood as a symbolic representation of the child-self: confused, split and dissociated, surviving within an incomprehensible world.



Infans’ ambiguous form evokes the unspeakable or ineffable, allowing the figure to carry projection and associations beyond personal experience.
